Complex requirements, limited resources
When Verbundkrankenhaus Linz-Remagen was confronted with the new requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), it was faced with a mountain of challenges. Despite having already implemented measures in waste and energy management as well as ISO 50001 certification, the CSRD brought with it a new dimension of requirements:
- Complexity of the directive: lack of expertise in implementing the CSRD in hospitals
- Lack of time: No capacity to work through thousands of data points
- Fear of making mistakes: high pressure to implement all legal requirements correctly
An external partner was sought who would not only bring specialist knowledge to the table, but who would also show an understandable and practical way through the reporting process.
We were looking for a solution that would save us time and ensure that we meet all the key ESG requirements in a legally compliant manner. Planted's combination of expert advice and software solution convinced us immediately.

Planted impresses with expert advice and intelligent automation
In addition to the expertise of the CSRD team of experts, the AI-supported software solution was also a decisive factor in the choice of Planted. The ability of the ESG software to aggregate the relevant information from the 1,200 ESRS data points was particularly convincing for the Linz-Remagen hospital.
"We have neither the time nor the resources to work our way through all 1,200 ESRS data points. Planted's software will take this task off our hands - it will save us an enormous amount of time," says Jolanda Pott, Assistant to the Management, Verbundkrankenhaus Linz-Remagen.
Structured entry: The first steps with Planted
The process began with a double materiality analysis. In two workshops with the Planted team of experts, business activities and stakeholders were recorded and the impacts, risks and opportunities (IROs) identified.
"The collaboration with Planted so far has been insightful, informal and valuable. The workshops in particular are worth their weight in gold, because even initially skeptical team members are won over," says Jolanda Pott.
This is particularly important as many different departments are involved in the CSRD process - from management to controlling, financial accounting, purchasing, supply chain management and quality management through to management assistance.
"By working closely with Planted, everyone developed a sense that sustainability is a topic for the future that we can benefit from."
CO₂ balance sheet and full CSRD reporting
In the upcoming workshops, the identified IROs will be transferred to the software and evaluated using AI. This will allow the key data points for the Linz-Remagen hospital to be determined precisely. The final presentation of the results will then form the basis for the next steps - from the CO₂ balance sheet to full CSRD reporting.
Further steps for a sustainable corporate strategy
The hospital also continues to focus on sustainable measures beyond CSRD reporting. The following projects are planned for the coming months:
- ISO 50001: Continuous evaluation of energy consumption to identify potential savings
- Photovoltaic system: applying for funding to reduce the CO₂ footprint
- Digitization of patient files: Optimizing processes to reduce paper consumption and increase efficiency
