MYTY launches its net+ initiative for more sustainability
Holistic sustainability strategy (integration of all agencies)
CO₂ balance, CO₂ reduction, CO₂ (over)compensation and trees in Germany
Problem
Before working with Planted, individual MYTY agencies were already involved in sustainability projects with various partners. This commitment is to be standardized throughout the company and implemented holistically.
David Rost
Managing Director
We are proud to join forces with Planted to make our vision of a net climate positive* network a reality. Our MYTY net+ initiative will not only offset and overcompensate our own CO2 emissions, but will also have a tangible positive impact on the environment by investing in effective sustainability projects and reducing internal emissions.
Solution
The MYTY agency network is building a pioneering initiative in the field of sustainability in partnership with Planted. The collaboration aims to establish sustainability holistically throughout the MYTY Group. It will be implemented by specially appointed climate officers in each MYTY agency.
Cross-location CO₂ balance sheet and analysis
At the beginning, the company emissions for each MYTY agency were recorded on the sustainability platform in close cooperation with the Planted experts. This includes various data, such as the vehicle fleet, energy consumption, commuter behavior and office materials. The carbon footprint is calculated automatically and the emissions are clearly displayed according to the individual scopes and for each business unit.
The MYTY Group's carbon footprint for 2022 is 2949.68671 tons of CO₂e. The largest share is attributable to Scope 2 and primarily relates to electricity consumption. Scope 3 emissions are primarily caused by services (including digital services such as servers, cloud storage, software tools and advertisements) and employee commuting in all agencies. Home office and business travel each account for less than 5 percent. Scope 1 produces the fewest emissions and the areas are also manageable. Only heating and the vehicle fleet are included here.
One example of an agency is appmotion, whose carbon footprint for 2022 is 129 tons of CO₂e. The majority of emissions are caused by the vehicle fleet in Scope 1. The emissions in Scope 2 are mainly caused by electricity, which consists of an electricity mix. In Scope 3, emissions are mainly caused by the services used.
Handprint: CO₂ compensation
The remaining emissions from all agencies are more than offset by 25% through the promotion of a hydropower project in Vietnam. The climate protection project is UN-certified and ensures green electricity production in the central highlands of Vietnam. Every year, 363,438 tons of CO₂ can be reduced with the help of the power plant, to which MYTY's compensation also contributes.
Handprint: Company forest in Germany
To further promote the handprint, the hyperlocal MYTY company forest grows by 3,300 trees every year. This contributes to the preservation of biodiversity here and preserves the forest with all its protective functions as a water reservoir and filter, noise protection, habitat, air filter and recreational area for us humans.
Planned reduction measures
Electrify the vehicle fleet
Driving forward the switch to green electricity
Making business trips more sustainable
Avoidance of paper
Purchase of refurbished hardware
With the obvious changes, MYTY can achieve a reduction of around 58 percent in its emissions.
Among other things, the Appmotion agency is planning to switch from combustion vehicles to e-cars, switch to green electricity and reduce air travel.
Result and outlook
MYTY acts as a net climate-positive* network with a focus on internalCO2 reduction, offsetting emissions and promoting a positive environmental impact.
The "MYTY net+" initiative marks a significant step towards greater sustainability for the agency network. By embedding sustainability into the core principles of the company and actively involving employees in the sustainability strategy, MYTY, together with Planted, is making a positive contribution to climate protection at all levels. Agencies that join the Group are automatically integrated into the MYTY net+ model. This not only increases the Group's growth, but also reinforces the positive climate impact.
*MYTY deliberately chose the claim of "net climate positive" because, despitereducing CO2, they continue to emit emissions with everything they do. But: MYTY not only offsets its emissions, but also overcompensates its climate impact through renewable energy projects such as the climate protection project in Vietnam.
