Record CO2 balance automatically and efficiently

What is a CO2 balance sheet?

The CO2 balance (or corporate carbon footprint) describes the totality of greenhouse gas emissions generated within a company. These emissions arise in processes that are directly or indirectly related to the company's business activities.

By calculating CO2 emissions, companies can quantify and monitor their impact on the environment. This is the only way to develop an understanding of greenhouse gas emissions and set concrete targets for reduction. This makes the CO2 balance sheet not only one of the most important foundations for CSR reporting, but also the entry point for a holistic sustainability strategy.

What data is required for the CO2 balance?

Creating an accurate CO2 balance requires a wide range of data that captures emissions from various sources and activities. Here are the most important categories of data:

  • Fuel and power consumption
  • Machinery, vehicle kilometers, heating and cooling systems
  • emissions through procurement of raw materials and products
  • Business travel, employee commuting
  • Waste disposal
  • Current factors for fuels and energy
  • Site-specific emission factors
  • Land use and deforestation data
  • Production volumes and associated emissions
  • Distances and fuel consumption for means of transport

It is divided into direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions, the so-called scopes. You can read more about this here.

How is the CO2 balance calculated?

With the help of the Planted sustainability platform, the recording of CO2 emissions is simple and can be implemented without expert knowledge. The first step is to identify the sources of emissions and provide the data mentioned above. The data can then be entered into our platform.

With the help of our partner maesn, the data is automatically made available in the Planted sustainability platform. Via interface integrations (API), the data is pulled from the IT landscape of the respective company according to its needs and entered into the platform.

This input is done by connecting the respective company software, such as ERP, warehouse management or time recording solutions, whose data is sent to Planted's sustainability platform via workflow.

Automated data collection and CO2 calculation

Through the central and automatically updated data collection, the company's CO2 emissions are automatically calculated using the formulas and standards used by Planted. The results are submitted to the Planted platform and the respective company account with just one click. Thanks to this process, there is no additional work for the companies and saves manual, time-consuming efforts. The companies thus benefit from a fully automated and efficient data transfer.

Presentation of the corporate carbon footprint

Within the Planted sustainability platform, the company can view its own CO2 balance at a glance. The clear presentation shows the company emissions divided into Scope 1 to 3 and classifies them into various subcategories. This makes it visible in which areas (e.g. business travel, mobility, digital, energy) most emissions are emitted. The next steps can be derived from the identified CO2 hotspots by setting up a reduction path including holistic targets and interim goals. The next step is to reduce internal emissions.

Calculate CO2 balance within a few days

With the Planted solution and the support of our partners maesn, calculating the CO2 balance has never been easier. Due to the automated data transfer and calculation, the recording can be implemented without expert knowledge and within a few days (with data submission).
