We plant mixed forests in Germany

Free climate advice

Together we can achieve a lot

We at Planted firmly believe that we can use the power of the forest to combat the advancing climate crisis.

To do this, we start regionally in our German forests: Because trees are our allies in the fight against climate change, but German forests are doing very badly.

With your help, we can make a big difference, use the forest as a tool against climate change and preserve the planet for future generations.

TREES PLANTED

The time to act is now

We plant climate-stable mixed forests because we lack the time to simply let the forest do its thing.

Especially on areas of former monocultures that could not withstand climate change, the same tree species would grow again without our intervention.

We are already in the middle of the climate crisis, and with our plantings we are giving the forest impulses to cope with extreme weather events.

Where we plant

We plant the mixed forests in various areas throughout Germany. Mainly in the vicinity of larger cities. The areas are owned by federal states, municipalities and private individuals. For us, the priority is to preserve the forest for the future. The forest always fulfils the important protective functions - regardless of who owns the land.

From seedling to tree

The time

In order for the seedling to grow in the best possible way, we plant in the cold season from November to March: the trees are in hibernation and increased rain helps the roots to grow in well in the moist soil.

We obtain our seedlings from regional tree nurseries. Which tree species and sizes we choose is decided by the future location of the seedlings. The aim is to make the best decisions for the growth of the trees.

The seedling
The planting

First, the top layer of soil is pushed aside. Then a hole is dug as deep as the longest root can reach. This must have contact with the mineral soil so that it finds nutrients and a connection to the groundwater. The hole is then filled again with the individual soil layers.

At 30 to 40 metres, the average tree is fully grown and stores one tonne of COÔéé per tonne of wood. Until that time, our climate forester Jan and the forest owners check the "growing up" of the seedlings and take care of the trees.

Research and vision for the future

We ask not only how, but also: what is the best way? Through research and testing of different methods, we achieve particularly climate-stable mixed forests.

Mixed forest on lignite land

In autumn, we plant climate-stable tree species on a former brown coal site. The creation of a mixed forest is intended to revitalise the area and bring back biodiversity.

Root friendly plants

The TREETOBEE® planting cartridge is a planting method in which trees are planted in the forest after a few months in the nursery in a way that is gentle on the roots. The advantage is that it makes it easier for the trees to grow in.

Shaping the future together

We are planning a research project with the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences: over 100,000 m┬▓ of arable land in Brandenburg is to be planted with 40 tree species. The aim is to find out which tree species can cope with climate change.
